The board shall adopt rules to prescribe the following minimum continuing education requirements for the renewal of the following certificates:
1. Practical technologist in podiatry, 2 hours every 2 years.
2. Practical technologist in radiology, 6 hours every 2 years.
3. Practical technologist in bone densitometry, 1 hour every 2 years.
4. Unlimited practical technologist in radiology, 24 hours every 2 years.
5. Nuclear medicine technologist, 24 hours every 2 years.

All licensees are required to obtain six hours of continuing education which must be acquired within the year preceding the date of renewal.
Three of the six hours must be in the Radiologic Sciences, in the core areas of all licenses such as radiation protection, equipment operation and maintenance, image production and evaluation, patient care and management and radiopharmaceuticals. The other three hours may be in other areas related to health care.

California Dept of Health CE Renewal

The rules below will take effect July 1, 2016.  Click Here to see the new regulations.

CRTs-24 CEs in 2 year period, 4 of which shall be in digital radiography
Limited-24 CEs in 2 year period, 4 of which shall be in digital radiography
Mammography – 24 hours in two-year period: 10 of which must be in mammography.
Certified Supervisors and Operators – 10 hours in two-year period
Fluoroscopy -- 4 hours in radiation safety in two-year period

Courses must be in subjects related to the application of X-ray to the human body" may include X-ray administration, X-ray management, X-ray pathology, X-ray diagnosis and X-ray quality control. However, subjects in MRI, Ultrasound, CPR, or other topics not related to the application of X-rays to the human body cannot be accepted.

Gage CE indicates which courses meet these requirements or have been reviewed by the California Department of Health Radiologic Health branch and are acceptable.

CEUs must be obtained through a provider approved by the Department. All licensees are required to obtain a minimum of 24 CEUs during each two-year license renewal cycle. Individuals licensed as a Radiologist Assistant or a Nuclear Medicine Advanced Associate are required to obtain a minimum of 50 CEUs during each two-year license renewal cycle.
(2)
For individuals licensed in one discipline:
(a)
ten CEUs must be in the discipline in which the individual is licensed;
(b)
two CEUs must be in radiation safety; and
(c)
the remaining 12 CEUs must be earned in topics directly related to health care practice, radiation safety, or their specialty.
(3)
For individuals licensed in two or more disciplines:
(a)
four CEUs must be in each discipline in which the individual is licensed;
(b)
two CEUs must be in radiation safety, and the remaining CEUs must be earned in topics directly related to health care practice, radiation safety, or their specialty.
(4)
For individuals licensed as Mammography Radiologic Technologists, 12 CEUs must be in Mammography, two CEUs must be in radiation safety, four CEUs in Radiography, and the remaining CEUs must be in topics directly related to health care practice, radiation safety, Radiography or Mammography.
(5)
For individuals licensed as a Radiologist Assistant, 50 CEUs must be included in the Continuing Education Requirements, including two in radiation safety.
(6)
For individuals licensed as a Nuclear Medicine Advanced Associate, 50 CEUs must be included in the NMTCB's Continuing Education Requirements, including two in radiation safety
